Harpoon is a duo of Tina Hitchens and Aron Ward, stalwarts of the DIY music scene in Bristol (UK). In 2013 the pair compared notes on their new Volca Beats machines, quickly finding the thing to do was sync them up, push them through an excess of FX pedals and see what happened. The result is live improvised techno-like scufflings, brutalist and lean.

Over years of live improvisation, Harpoon have honed their clear and rare sound - tracks scurry and surge through textures and rhythms that one minute feel like they might explode, and the next materialise into massive beats that shift your body.

11 years in, new Bristol based label Totality release Harpoon’s Heat Pump, an aggregate of sessions recorded in 2020 and 2021, released along with videos by Sarah James & Nic Finch (who have both worked with Harpoon for live sets), and Harpoon’s own Aron Ward. Heat Pump is an exposition in their trademark sound - a hefty and uncompromising ride.
